Sublimation printing is the premier method for all-over, full-color custom apparel on polyester fabrics. It uses heat to permanently infuse dye into synthetic fibers, producing vibrant, edge-to-edge prints that never crack, peel, or fade.

What Is Sublimation Printing?

Sublimation printing transfers sublimation ink from a special paper onto polyester fabric using heat and pressure. The ink turns from solid to gas (sublimation) and bonds at the molecular level with polyester fibers. The result is a print that becomes part of the fabric — not a layer on top.

Because the dye bonds with the fibers, sublimation prints are virtually indestructible. They don't crack, peel, or fade, even after hundreds of washes. The trade-off is that sublimation only works on polyester or polyester-blend fabrics (at least 65% polyester).

Frequently Asked Questions

Sublimation works best on 100% polyester or fabrics with at least 65% polyester content. It does not work on cotton or natural fibers. White or light-colored polyester garments produce the most vibrant results.

Yes! Sublimation is the best method for all-over, edge-to-edge prints. The entire garment can be covered in a seamless design with no white borders or gaps.

Sublimation is the most durable printing method available. Since the dye bonds at the molecular level with polyester fibers, the print will never crack, peel, or fade — it truly becomes part of the fabric.

Sublimation works best on white or light-colored polyester. On dark garments, the colors will appear muted since the dye cannot override the dark base color. For dark garments, DTF or screen printing is a better choice.
